"How much is a domain in Pakistan?" is the question we get most on WhatsApp, usually followed by "and why is the .pk more than the .com?". The short answer is that it depends on the extension, the term and whether you're registering or renewing. The longer answer is below, and it'll save you from a few surprises.
We haven't put exact rupee figures in this article because they move with offers and registry changes. For today's prices, see the domain pricing page. What follows explains how the prices work, so the numbers on that page make sense.
The three prices every domain has
Every domain comes with three prices, and they're not always the same:
- Registration: what you pay the first time.
- Renewal: what you pay every term after that. This is the number that matters long term.
- Transfer: what it costs to move the domain from another registrar. For most extensions this also adds time to your registration.
A lot of the "Rs 99 domain" adverts you'll see are first-year registration offers with a much higher renewal. There's nothing wrong with taking an offer, just know what you'll pay in year two.
.pk, .com.pk and the rest of the .pk family
The .pk family (.pk, .com.pk, .net.pk, .org.pk, .biz.pk, .web.pk and others) is managed by PKNIC. Two things shape the price:
The minimum term is two years. You can't buy a .pk for a single year. So when you see a .pk price next to a .com price, remember you're usually comparing two years against one.
PKNIC sets the base fee. Registrars add their margin on top, but the registry fee is the floor. In August 2026 PKNIC increased that fee by Rs 600 per two-year period, for both new registrations and renewals. We've covered what that means in detail in the PKNIC price update.
Plain .pk and .com.pk are usually priced the same. Some of the other extensions cost a little more.
.com, .net and other international domains
International extensions are registered by the year, so the headline price is lower than a .pk. Prices for these are set in dollars by their registries, which is why .com prices in Pakistan tend to drift upward when the rupee weakens.
Buying from a Pakistani registrar means you pay in rupees at a fixed price, rather than being charged in dollars plus your bank's foreign transaction fee.
Things that quietly add to the cost
- A high renewal rate after a cheap first year. Always check the renewal column.
- Paid DNS management. You shouldn't pay extra to point your domain at a server or set up email records. It's included with every domain we register.
- Premium names. Some short or dictionary-word domains are priced higher by the registry. You'll see this at checkout.
- Letting it expire. Restoring an expired domain, or buying it back from someone who grabbed it, costs far more than any renewal.
How to pay less over time
- Register for longer. A longer term locks in today's price and protects you from the next increase.
- Get it free with hosting. Our yearly hosting plans include a free .com, and the .pk hosting bundles include a .pk for the two-year term.
- Watch the offers. We run domain promotions regularly. They're on the promotions page.
So which should you buy?
If your customers are in Pakistan, a .pk is worth the extra cost for the local trust it brings. If they're mostly abroad, start with a .com. If you can manage both, take both and point them to the same website.
